Ameobi to participate in friendly says keshi.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has quashed insinuations that Shola Ameobi might miss the Nelson Mandela Challenge against South Africa next month due to an arm injury.
Keshi said the Newcastle forward is healthy and will not miss the game that will ensure his return to the side after dropping out before the final announcement of the squad to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Ameobi picked up a late injury in a pre-season friendly between the Magpies and Portuguese club Rio Ave on Sunday.
He had come on as a second half substitute to score his side’s lone goal in the 3-1 loss, but then fell on his arm. His exact state of health had been unknown with the club yet to release the results of a planned x-ray.
However, Keshi has given assurance that the player is in good shape.
“I have spoken to Shola and the guy is fit and healthy and will be available for the Mandela Challenge. He told me so himself, so any other news to the contrary I don’t believe.” Keshi said.

Nigerians Massively Knock Senate Over Child Marriage Law

Na wa o! What is Nigeria turning to these days, are these events happening around us signs? Possibly of the END TIME cos I see no reason for such laws to be made to make innocent young girls insecure.
There is a massive protests at the Senate over the passage of a resolution to retain or keep the provision of Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 Constitution. Under that section, a married underage girl is deemed to be an adult.
Lots of prominent Nigerians ad human right organisations took to the social media to protest what they described as legalisation of sexual abuse ofunderage girls.
The protests were held in some parts of the country on Saturday such as Abuja and Lagos among others. Petitions were also signed to protest the law.
Well, the protesters might besiege all state House of Assembly and National Assembly on Tuesday to call on the Senate to reverse itself.
Those who protested queried why underage Nigerians are not allowed to exercise their franchise at the poll but where being subjected to marriage at tender age.

Lagos-based Motivational speakerand a pastor, Sam Adeyemi, twitted and says, If Islam permits something that the rest country and many parts of the world feel is detestable, then it is a serious issue. We can’t take away from a Muslim the right to practice his/her religion.

Federal Government in cash trouble.

There are strong concerns in government circle that the country’s revenue projection for the 2013 fiscal year may not be realized.
According to Saturday Punch the gross oil revenue accruing to theFederation Account had dwindled seriously in recent times or days.
Drop in revenue has raised fears that the Federal Government may not be able to implement the 2013 budget fully. Sources in government attributedthe drop to a massive oil theft, illegal bunkering and vandalism of pipeline.
The figures obtained by this newspaper, showing the monthly allocations to the 3 tiers of government by the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, showed that the country only realized N3.893tn as gross federally collected revenue in the first 6 months of 2013.
This sum, according to the analysis of the document, showed a shortfall of N321.73bn against the projected revenue of N4.215tn that was projected for the country for the period of 6 months.
According to the FAAC document, the monthly budgeted gross federally collected revenue for the country in put at N702.54bn. This is expected to be realized from 3 revenue sources – mineral revenue, N465.057bn, non mineral revenue, N158.71bn and N78.77bn Valued Added Tax.
However, the further investigations revealed that the N3.893tn revenue for the first half on this year, 2013, was earned as follows – in January, N651.26bn, February, N571.7bn, and in March, N595.71bn. In months of April, May and June, revenue receipts by the country were N621.07bn, N590.77bn and N863.02bn respectively.
The country actually recorded significant revenue drop between January and May.
Shortfalls were recorded as follows: In January N51.28bn; February N130.84bn; March N106.84bn, April N81.47bn and May N111.77bn. Curiously, there was a major surplus of N160.48bn in June as the country’s revenue receipts of N863.02bn exceeded the budgeted sum of N702.54bn owing to completion of pipeline repairs in some terminals.
It was also gathered that unless the revenue generating agencies step up their efforts and leakages in the area of oil sector were taken care off, the country might only realize about N7.78tn for the year 2013 fiscal yearinstead of the projected N8.43tn going by the first-half revenue trend.
The coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during the week said that the country was losing 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day to illegal bunkering and vandalism of oil pipelines.
The Finance Minister, who last Tuesday in Abuja appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Appropriation/Finance, said, “We are losing revenue; 400,000 barrels of crude oil are lost on a daily basis due to illegal bunkering, vandalism and production shut-in. The quantity of oil produced for that day will be lost because it means government cannot sell it and it means a drop in revenue.”

Okonjo-Iweala, also explained that the reason President Goodluck Jonathan sought to amend the 2013 Appropriation Act as against sending a supplementary budget to theNational Assembly.
She also pointed out that with the revenue shortfalls currently facing the country, there was no way the government could afford a supplementary budget.
Because of the shortfall in revenue, the Federal Government had constituted a committee headed by Alhaji Isa Yuguda (Bauchi State Governor) to address the oil theft problem. While other members of the committee are Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, Anambra state Governor, Peter Obi and Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo.

    Side effects of painkillers.

Everyone has experienced pains at one point or another. And so many of us know what it is like to experience severe aches and pains in the back, leg or head, even for a short while.

Painkillers are often taken for temporary relief, but it is common for people living with chronic pain to become dependent or addicted to painkillers.

Yes, it is not just cocaine or heroin that people abuse; thousands of Nigerians are in the grip of a deadly drug addiction — to everyday painkillers commonly known as analgesic.

Though these drugs give short relief, doctors warn that overdependence on them may create greater health challenge than users can handle.

According to a report by Michael House Pain Treatment and Alcohol Centre, Palm Beach, United States of America, taking any painkiller for a long period of time will most likely lead to the development of a tolerance and physical dependence upon the drug.

But then, how do you know you have reached the point of addiction? General practitioner, Dr. Lanre Salami, says someone is said to be addicted to painkillers when taking the drug has become the only ‘treatment’ for the chronic or slight pain the person feels in any part of his body and he no longer has control over their use.

He states that since most pain relief medications contain nicotine, caffeine and Ibruprofen, it is easier to get addicted to them.

Salami adds, “It’s a health issue, as well as a mental and physical issue, and this addiction can have serious consequences, depending on how long you have been using them, even to cure pain or aches.”

Apart from addiction, experts warn that there are three main health concerns when using painkillers to treat pain over a long period. One is that the pain you are trying to repress or cure may become worse.

The Director, Pain Management and Research Institute, New York, Prof. Michael Nicholas, adds that painkillers are psychotropic drugs and their prolonged use could cause mood changes and sedation and eventually lead to depression.

Nicholas notes that these painkillers are only useful for treating short-term pain, and never intended to treat long-term pain.

“None of these drugs will fix the problem. All they do is cover it and that’s when people get into trouble. They increase the dose themselves. You can actually end up feeling more pain with the drugs you are taking because you get more sensitised. And as the drugs wear off, so people take more and then they have more side effects.”

However, with the rigour of living in a socially and physically demanding 21st century, pain is more common than ever and so is the increased use of pain medication.

But how do you manage your pain without drugs?

The doctors say one must understand the cause, and how to prevent it or seek treatment.

Nicholas notes that it’s important to correct the root cause of pain, while managing it may require the help of a doctor or a pain specialist and other health professionals. Therefore, visit the hospital.

But not to worry, there are some natural remedies and quite simple lifestyle changes that could stop the pain and get one off painkillers. One of them is physical exercise. A health and fitness expert, Valerie Johnston, says the brain releases chemicals known as endorphins during exercise, which block pain signals and also serve as mood boosters.

Johnston adds, “Any form of physical exercise also works on other levels to reduce pain. By strengthening your muscles, increasing your mobility, improving your range of motion, increasing your endurance, and improving your cardio health, your body’s resistance to pain will increase naturally.”

As expected, stress has a way of intensifying pain. Johnston notes that negative emotions which arise from being stressed out could cause the body to tense up, which could aggravate existing aches.

She recommends stress reduction techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and guided imagery that naturally relax both the body and mind.

“As you learn to live a more relaxed, stress-free life, you will progressively be able to manage your pain more effectively. Knowing how to access a mental escape will be of great benefit for moving out of your pain and into a more peaceful state of mind.”

She also states that poor diet is one of the key culprits in causing inflammation and pain.

According to her, individuals who are overweight and/or malnourished are much more prone to chronic pain, adding that a variety of vegetables, fresh fruit, whole grains, omega-3 fatty acids, beans, peas, nuts, and other healthy food choices, while reducing unhealthy foods, can reduce back and neck pain, as well as headaches.

Johnston says, “Proper nutrition, in combination with exercise, will result in a stronger body that is better able to combat pain and a number of other health problems that can lead to chronic pain.”

    Barcelona coach Tito Villanova resigns.

    Jul 19, 2013 7:36:00 PM

Club president Sandro Rosell confirmed on Friday that the 44-year-old will undergo further cancer treatment, making it "impossible for him to continue as coach"
Tito Vilanova has resigned as coach of Barcelona, the club have confirmed.

Rumours emerged on Friday that the 44-year-old, who took over from Pep Guardiola prior to the 2012-13 season, was set to step down from his role after suffering another setback in his battle against ill-health.

Club president Sandro Rosell and director of football Andoni Zubizarreta called a press conference at Camp Nou on Friday evening, where they confirmed Vilanova must undergo further cancer treatment which would make it "impossible" for him to continue in his role.

"After looking at routine tests, there is [now] an option to continue treating his disease which means it will be impossible for him to continue as first-team coach of FC Barcelona," Rosell told reporters. "I want to ask for the maximum respect for him and his family.

"We have got together with all of the players and the coaching staff and we have decided not to play tomorrow in Poland [in a friendly against Lechia Gdansk].

"It is a very big blow, a huge blow. But Barcelona has overcome many obstacles in its history and this will be no exception."

The Barcelona squad, including Lionel Messi, were present in the front two rows of seats of the press conference as Rosell delivered the news.

Barca won 32 out of 38 league games under Vilanova in 2012-13, lifting the Primera Division title with a record-equalling points tally of 100, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League for a record sixth consecutive season.

Rosell also confirmed the club expect to announce his successor in the coming days.
